Why this programme exists
Job advertisements ask for computer literacy and then assume it. In practice a great many capable people were never taught the things an office takes for granted — how to build a table of contents, why a VLOOKUP beats retyping a column, how to spot a phishing email before clicking it.
Four weeks, taught from the beginning, with no assumption of prior knowledge and no embarrassment about asking. By the end you will be faster than most of the people who never took a course at all.

What you will be able to do
- Work confidently in Windows 11, including the keyboard shortcuts that make everything faster.
- Organise files and folders with a naming convention that still makes sense in a year.
- Format a professional document in Word using styles, and generate a table of contents automatically.
- Run a mail merge to produce personalised letters from a spreadsheet.
- Build working Excel formulas: SUM, AVERAGE, IF, COUNTIF, SUMIF, VLOOKUP and CONCATENATE.
- Summarise a large dataset with a pivot table in under a minute, without writing a formula.
- Build a presentation that people can actually read, and export it as PDF.
- Write a professional email with a clear subject line and correct use of Cc.
- Identify a phishing email from its greeting, its urgency, its link and its sender address.
- Set a strong password, use a password manager, and run a 3-2-1 backup so your work survives a failure.
- Work through the first five troubleshooting steps before calling for help.
Who should attend
- Anyone entering office work for the first time
- Staff whose computer skills were picked up informally and have gaps
- Job seekers who need a certificate to evidence computer literacy
- Small business owners handling their own records and correspondence
- Anyone who avoids Excel and would rather not
Entry requirements. None. This programme assumes no prior computer experience whatsoever. If you can attend, you can take it.
How the programme is taught
Every session is hands-on at a computer. Nothing is demonstrated on a screen and then left — each technique is practised until it works, with the trainer moving between participants.
The examples are real business documents: a proposal, an invoice, a student list, a presentation to a client. The email module uses correspondence of the kind Kevajopa actually sends, so the standard being taught is a working professional standard rather than a classroom one.
Module by module
Module 1 · Week 1 · 8 hours
Computer Fundamentals
The machine, the operating system, and where things are kept.
- Hardware: what the CPU, RAM, SSD, GPU and monitor each do, and what to look for when buying
- Windows 11: the desktop, windows, settings and File Explorer
- The keyboard shortcuts worth learning first, including Win+L before you leave your desk
- File naming and folder structure that stays usable — dates, no spaces, depth limits
Module 2 · Weeks 2–3 · 16 hours
Microsoft Office Suite
Word, Excel and PowerPoint, taught with the features that save hours rather than minutes.
- Word styles and automatic tables of contents — the most underused feature in the program
- Mail merge: personalised letters at scale from a spreadsheet
- Excel formulas: SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, IF, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, COUNTIF, TEXT and CONCATENATE
- Pivot tables for instant summaries, and PowerPoint layouts, consistency and PDF export
Module 3 · Week 3 · 4 hours
Internet and Digital Communication
Email that reads professionally, and the judgement to spot what should not be clicked.
- Phishing red flags: generic greetings, manufactured urgency, mismatched sender domains, unexpected attachments
- Professional email structure — subject, salutation, body, signature — and when Cc is appropriate
- Browsing, searching effectively, and downloading safely
- Google Drive and Workspace sharing permissions, and what each level really exposes
Module 4 · Week 4 · 4 hours
Digital Safety and Troubleshooting
Protecting your work, and fixing the common problems yourself.
- Strong passwords and passphrases, and using a password manager rather than reusing one password
- The 3-2-1 backup rule applied to an office computer
- The first five troubleshooting steps, which resolve most problems
- Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 essentials
Assessment and certification
Assessment is practical throughout — documents, spreadsheets and presentations produced during the programme — with a short final assessment covering the whole syllabus.
A Kevajopa Technologies Limited Certificate in Computer Applications is awarded on satisfactory completion, with a minimum 80% attendance recorded per session. It is a recognised evidence of computer literacy for employment purposes.
